Ron Darling announced on Saturday that he will undergo surgery to remove a mass in his chest.
Darling was on-air calling the New York Mets-Atlanta Braves game when he shared the news, saying he hadn’t been feeling well lately and went in for tests that discovered the mass. You can listen to him make the announcement:

Darling says he is hopeful of returning to work in May if all goes well.
Darling, 58, pitched in the bigs from 1983-1995. He began his career with the Mets and made an All-Star team with them in 1985. He has worked in TV throughout his retirement as a player and calls Mets games for SNY.
Todd Zeile will fill in for Ron Darling during Mets broadcasts.
“My health is the top priority right now for my family and I,” Darling said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to being back in the booth with our crew and my friends Gary and Keith as soon as I can.”
