Royals will retain manager Ned Yost

Despite significant speculation to the contrary, Ned Yost will return as Kansas City Royals manager for at least one more season.

The team announced that Yost had agreed to a one-year contract extension through 2019, ensuring a tenth year in the Kansas City dugout.

The conventional wisdom had been that the 64-year-old may just move on after his contract expired, with the Royals embarking on a rebuild that he may not want to see out. That way he could find another job or have more time for his favorite recreational pastimes. Ultimately, the Royals clearly believe that Yost, the winningest manager in franchise history, still has something to offer this young, rebuilding group.
