Former MLB All-Star Sandy Alomar Sr. has died at the age of 81.
Alomar played 15 seasons in MLB from 1964-1978. He was a middle infielder who played shortstop and second base, and he made the All-Star team with the California Angels in 1970.
Alomar was a career .245 hitter and stole 227 bases. He was highly regarded for his fielding.
Alomar, who is from Puerto Rico, also started a nice legacy. His sons Sandy Alomar Jr. and Roberto Alomar both played in MLB, with Roberto making the Hall of Fame.

Alomar played six seasons (1969-74) of his 15-year Major League career with the Angels and represented the Angels in the 1970 All-Star Game.

After his playing career ended, Sandy Sr. went into coaching. He coached with the Padres, Cubs, Rockies and Mets, and he also coached the Puerto Rican national team.
