Shelby Miller hit in elbow by Carl Crawford line drive (Video)
Shelby Miller left his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday after two pitches after being struck on the elbow by a line drive from Carl Crawford.
Miller, who has been one of the top pitchers in the NL all season, left a 1-0 fastball over the middle for Crawford, who sent a rod back up the box. The ball hit off Miller’s elbow and caromed all the way into shallow left field, allowing Crawford to move to second. The St. Louis Cardinals team trainer came out to examine Miller, who was in all sorts of pain.
The 22-year-old left the game and was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion. X-rays came back negative. Miller is second among Cardinals starters in ERA, and third in innings, wins, and strikeouts, trailing Chris Carpenter and Lance Lynn.
