Shin-Soo Choo is certainly entering Opening Day with a lot of confidence.
On the eve of their season opener against the defending champion Houston Astros, the Texas Rangers outfielder gave quite a bold prediction to the media.
“We’re making the postseason,” said Choo, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “No question.”
Choo’s declaration may be easier said than done at this point though. Texas went 78-84 in 2017, and the job may be even tougher this time around with a quartet of ex-All-Stars (Tyson Ross, Carlos Gomez, Jonathan Lucroy, and Mike Napoli) no longer on the roster. The replacements the Rangers landed this winter (Doug Fister and Trevor Plouffe, to name a few) were marginal too, and overall the team is aging on both sides of the ball.
Still, you gotta like Choo’s mindset entering the new season, which is definitely much better than that of this fellow American League West team.
