Rangers hoping Shin-Soo Choo will return for postseason

Shin-Soo Choo

Shin-Soo Choo was initially projected to miss around two months after having surgery on his broken forearm, but new information suggests he might be ready earlier than that.

MLB.com Rangers reporter T.R. Sullivan says Choo is already hitting off a tee and could progress to hitting soft toss. After that, the outfielder would progress to taking regular batting practice with his Rangers teammates before joining Texas’ instructional league squad for game action.

Sullivan says the Rangers are becoming hopeful that Choo can return for the postseason, which begins on Oct. 6 for Texas.

Choo was only batting .247 in 45 games this season, but he had seven doubles and seven home runs along with 25 walks to elevate his OPS. He has been known to get hot from time to time and could really help carry the offense if he’s seeing the ball well.

Choo missed time earlier this season with a calf injury and has been out since suffering the broken forearm after being hit by a pitch against the A’s on Aug. 15.
