Shohei Ohtani gets target date to pitch after Tommy John surgery
The Los Angeles Angels have a target date for Shohei Ohtani to return to the mound after Tommy John surgery.
Angels GM Billy Eppler said that the team hopes to have Ohtani back on the mound by mid-May. He will continue to rehab until then while simultaneously DHing.
Shohei Ohtani will open the 2020 season as a DH, Billy Eppler said. They’re targeting a mid-May return for him on the mound. The new rules let him rehab while remaining on the big league roster.

Ohtani has not pitched since Sept. 2, 2018, and underwent the surgery less than a month later. He was able to DH for the majority of the 2019 season, and hit .286 with 18 home runs. The two-way star has been taking his rehab in stride, and definitely looks to be closing in on a return to the mound barring any setbacks.
