Shohei Ohtani has funny way of estimating his bullpen intensity

Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani does not expect to pitch this season, but he is still beginning to throw more bullpens in a bid to rehab himself for 2020.

The Los Angeles Angels’ two-way star threw a bullpen on Saturday at Fenway Park. While he isn’t yet throwing breaking balls, he did break out the fastball, and estimated that he was at 82 percent of his full strength.

Why 82 percent? Well, that’s what his fastball velocity was, of course.

Shohei Ohtani was asked what percent intensity he's been throwing his bullpens. He said he's throwing 82 mph, so that's 82 percent.

Ohtani has been throwing off a mound since June. He won’t be pitching in 2019, but he looks on track to take the mound again in 2020 after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
