Shohei Ohtani threw the fastest pitch of his MLB career

Shohei Ohtani made his third pitching appearance of the season on Saturday for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he clearly is not feeling any ill effects from his long time away from it.

Ohtani pitched two innings for the first time this season to open Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. He got Vinnie Pasquantino to hit into a double play to end the first inning.

Pasquantino grounded out on a pitch that was clocked at 101.7 mph, which would be the fastest pitch of Ohtani’s career.

The Dodgers are taking things cautiously with Ohtani, but he certainly seems to be feeling fine. He threw two scoreless innings Saturday with a hit, a walk, and a strikeout, though the Dodgers ultimately lost 9-5.

Ohtani has changed his delivery since returning to the mound from his injury. It certainly is not costing him in the velocity department. If anything, it might be helping him.
