Shota Imanaga has been a star this season for the Chicago Cubs and has made his name known among the fans. He also apparently is developing a second identity.

Marquee Sports Cubs reporter Andy Martinez reported via X on Friday that Imanaga’s locker in the Cubs’ clubhouse has a new name on it: “Mike Imanaga II.” According to Martinez, “Mike” is the name Imanaga uses when he places a coffee order because it’s much easier for employees to say and write than “Shota.” The “II” apparently was added just because it sounds cool

How can Cubs fans not love that.

The 30-year-old Imanaga was viewed as a lesser pitcher compared to Yoshinobu Yamamoto upon entering MLB, and some teams reportedly were not as interested in him. But he has shown so far that he is no consolation prize.

Imanaga has gone 6-1 with a 1.96 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 12 starts to begin his MLB career. Not only has he pitched extremely well, but “Mike” is also showing he has a good sense of humor.
