The Houston Cougars disappointingly opened their baseball season on Friday night, falling to Minnesota by a score of 14-3, but there was one standout highlight: The second career home run for Carsten Sabathia III.
Sabathia, the son of upcoming Baseball Hall of Fame inductee CC Sabathia, crushed a moonshot in the sixth inning that not only left the field of play but landed in the parking lot of a local McDonald’s.
With two down and a 1-1 count, Sabathia turned the ball inside-out, sending it 382 feet over the left field wall with an exit velocity of 110 mph. Unfortunately for Houston, it was the last run they would plate on the evening.
For Sabathia, the home run matched his season total from 2024 when he smacked just one out of the park for Georgia Tech in nine at-bats.
Sabathia is the oldest of four children by CC and his wife, Amber. He’s in his third college season after spending two years at Georgia Tech and has hit .211/.304/.526 with two home runs, seven RBI, and an OPS of .831 over his career.
Sabathia and Houston will continue their series against Minnesota on Saturday night before wrapping up the three-game set on Sunday.
