Terry Francona had his World Series rings stolen, recovered

Terry Francona

Terry Francona has been reunited with a couple important pieces of jewelry.

Joey Greaber of ABC 15 Arizona reported Tuesday that the Cleveland Indians manager had his two World Series rings stolen while in Arizona last month. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a theft in a residential area of Tucson on Nov. 7 and discovered that the rings had been stolen. They were later found to have been sold to a sports memorabilia store in Phoenix and have since been recovered.

Francona, who played college ball at the University of Arizona, earned the rings as manager of the Boston Red Sox during their World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.

“I am incredibly grateful to the effort that the Pima County Sherriff’s Department has put forth in this,” he said in a statement offered by the Indians. “Beyond that I can’t comment because it’s an open investigation.”

In an interesting coincidence, another member of that 2004 Red Sox team also had his World Series ring stolen some years ago.
