Tim Tebow is a possibility to make Mets’ opening day roster

Tim Tebow Mets

Could the dream of Tim Tebow playing in MLB for the New York Mets become a reality? He seems to have a prominent person in his corner.

New Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen said on Tuesday that Tebow is likely to begin next season at Triple-A, but he did not rule out the possibility of the former Heisman Trophy winner making the Mets’ opening day roster.

There are two things to keep in mind here. One, just because it’s a possibility doesn’t necessarily mean it’s likely, though it does show that Van Wagenen is taking Tebow seriously. Two, Van Wagenen was Tebow’s client, so it’s no surprise he believes in him.

Tebow, 31, spent all of last season with the Double-A Binghampton Rumble Ponies. He batted .273 with a .735 OPS — extremely respectable numbers for a player in just his second season of pro ball after not playing since high school. Though Tebow has had a respectable showing in the minors and has a knack for big moments, he still appears to be a long way from being able to hit consistently at a major league level.
