Victor Martinez expects to retire at end of season
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez admitted Wednesday that he’s almost certainly heading into the final six weeks of his MLB career.
The 39-year-old said after Wednesday’s defeat that he’s “pretty sure” he will end his career after his contract expires at the end of the season.

The decision will not come as much of a surprise. Martinez is not the force he once was, hitting .242 with just six home runs this season. A heart problem last season came as a big scare, but he was able to come back healthy and play a full season, which was what he had hoped to accomplish.
