Brewers reliever Will Smith tore knee while taking off his shoe

Here’s another entry for the list of extremely dumb and unfortunate spring training injuries.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Will Smith – a potential closer candidate – tore the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee when he twisted it while taking his shoe off after a minor league game.

“I was standing on one leg, trying to take the shoe off and I pulled hard and it stayed on. My knee just went up and popped,” said Smith, via Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “It sucks.”

Smith is awaiting word on whether he’ll need surgery or if the injury can simply be addressed through rehab.

Clubhouses are dangerous places. Lots of weird injuries can happen there. Just ask Drew Storen what happened to him last year.
