The Boston Red Sox entered play Saturday riding a nine-game winning streak, but the team’s fans were not in a forgiving mood when one of their star players did not put in maximum effort.
Willson Contreras heard the boos from fans at Fenway Park in Boston after he did not hustle on a ground ball in the 8th inning of their game against the Athletics. After hitting a routine grounder to third, Contreras barely even jogged up the first base line, was barely halfway to first when the out was made, and simply peeled off into the dugout.

Contreras had missed each of the last two games with an illness, which may have played a role in his jogging. It also did not help that the slugger had struck out in each of his first three at-bats leading up to this. Either way, it was a pretty bad look from the veteran.
Contreras is in his first season with the Red Sox and is under contract for the next two seasons, plus a club option for 2028. He has absolutely raved about his time in Boston so far, but the feeling will not be mutual if Contreras’ lack of hustle becomes a habit.
