The New York Yankees have lost five of their last nine games and are still 8.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, but one of their unexpected heroes believes good things are on the horizon for the Bronx Bombers.
Luke Voit, who has replaced a struggling Greg Bird in New York’s starting lineup, gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead over the Oakland A’s in the eighth inning of an eventual 5-1 win on Tuesday night. The homer was his seventh in the last 12 games. Following the win, Voit said he believes the “sky is the limit” for the Yanks.
Luke Voit: "I think we're going to get hot at the right time. This team is so freaking dangerous. Especially when we get some of these guys back from injuries, the sky is the limit. I'm excited to get deep into the playoffs with this team."

The victory gave the Yankees a 4.5-game lead over the A’s in the wild card, so they should have no problem making the playoffs. Voit is also right that they could end up getting healthy at the right time, as one of their most important players recently took a positive step in his rehab.
In any other season, the Yankees would be running away with the AL East division. It just so happens that the Red Sox are on pace to be one of the best teams in MLB history, but that won’t mean anything once the postseason begins. Voit’s confidence is likely shared throughout the clubhouse.
