Report: Yankees out of Bryce Harper sweepstakes
Bryce Harper in pinstripes does not look like it will be happening anywhere other than Photoshop.
Steve Phillips of TSN reported on Saturday that the New York Yankees “will not be in” on the free agent megastar this winter. Phillips also notes that the Yankees just re-signed outfielder Brett Gardner and appear to be targeting Manny Machado and pitching additions as “Plan A.”
After spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Washington Nationals, the former NL MVP Harper is the crown jewel of this year’s free agent class. Though he hit a near-career-low .249 in 2018, Harper is still expected to command what could be one of the biggest deals in MLB history.
The powerhouse Yankees will always have an omnipresent link to stars of Harper’s caliber, but it sounds like the 26-year-old may ultimately be taking his talents elsewhere (perhaps to this destination that is gaining some steam).
