According to multiple reports, the Yankees are promoting top prospect Gleyber Torres to the major leagues after a short AAA stint to start the season.

The Yankees manipulated Torres’s service time a bit to get an extra year of team control, but he’s definitely earned the promotion. Just 21, the consensus top-five prospect hit .370 with 11 RBI in 13 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, and the team was hinting at such a move earlier in the week.
It’s unlikely that the Yankees would be calling Torres up to sit him on the bench, so we’ll see how they utilize the infielder. Odds are he’ll see some time at second base. With the team off to a somewhat underwhelming 10-9 start, this may be the shot in the arm the club needs.
