Report: Yankees actively shopping 2-time All-Star

Marcus Stroman in a Yankees hat

The New York Yankees’ spending spree this offseason may be leaving one player on the outside looking in.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Tuesday that the Yankees are “actively” trying to trade righty starter Marcus Stroman. Nightengale notes that the Yankees would like to clear Stroman’s $18.3 million salary for next season from their books.

Stroman is a two-time career All-Star who just signed with the Yankees last offseason. But he is 33 years old now and was not very inspiring last season with a 4.31 ERA and a woeful 6.6 strikeouts per nine innings over 29 starts. Stroman also failed to make a single playoff appearance for the Yankees during their AL pennant run in 2024.

This offseason, the Yankees added fellow pitcher Max Fried to join what is now a very stacked rotation along with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt, and Luis Gil. That means that Stroman, who also clashed with teammates at times in 2024, could end up being the odd man out here.
