New York Yankees fans will be lacking familiar voices on their upcoming broadcasts.
Not only is longtime radio voice John Sterling missing his first game since 1989 due to illness, but Michael Kay will also be missing time.
The Yankees TV voice and host of “The Michael Kay Show” on YES Network announced on Twitter Wednesday that he would be undergoing surgery for his vocal cord and likely miss a month.
Just wanted to tell everyone what is going on. I went to see a specialist in Boston today and he recommended I have surgery to correct an issue with my vocal cord. I will have the surgery next week and will be out for about a month, starting with today’s game and radio show.

Those that follow me know that my jobs are the culmination of a child’s dream and I take this step with some fear but a strong belief in a doctor considered the best in his field. I love what I do and I appreciate all that enjoy what I do.

Ryan Ruocco, Ken Singleton, or John Flaherty are speculated by the New York Daily News to be potential fill-ins. Ruocco is already planned to be the fill-in for Sterling on radio.
Kay, 58, has been the Yankees’ TV voice since 2002.
