Yasiel Puig is finally answering one of life’s most spectacular mysteries.
The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder appeared on a panel during Thursday’s annual “Dodgers All-Access” event and gave a hilarious explanation for why he licks his bat. After comparing it to a kid with ice cream, Puig said that sometimes his bat has a tired face and needs some love, so he gives it.

Granted, Puig is batting a career-low .224 so far this season, so he may need to show his bat a little bit more of that love. But it seems that the former All-Star saves his tongue for the playoffs, as he did last year to the Internet’s delight.
