Yasiel Puig has been suspended and fined for starting a brawl against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
Puig was batting late in the game when Giants catcher Nick Hundley appeared to say something to Puig that bothered him. They got in each others’ faces, and then it got physical when Puig reached out to push/swipe at Hundley twice.
Benches from both teams cleared and during the fracas, Puig was seen reaching out to throw a punch at Hundley.
Both Puig and Hundley were ejected from the game.
Puig is planning to appeal the suspension and can continue playing for his Los Angeles Dodgers until a ruling is made on his appeal.
Puig's suspension is for "fighting and inciting a bench-clearing incident," the league says. Puig has said he would appeal. If he does, he can keep playing until the appeal is resolved.
