Yasmani Grandal reportedly turned down big offer from Mets
Yasmani Grandal must be a big-time believer in his own value.
Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday that the Los Angeles Dodgers free agent catcher turned down a four-year, $60 million offer from the New York Mets. Castillo also adds that Grandal, who had declined the Dodgers’ $17.9 million qualifying offer, is unlikely to return to LA unless he is willing to sign a short contract.
The 30-year-old Grandal, a former All-Star, is coming off a 2018 season where he hit .241 with 24 homers and 68 RBIs. The relatively strong campaign was overshadowed however by Grandal’s horrific performance in the playoffs.
Catcher is a position of scarcity, and Grandal’s bat alone should be enough to earn him a nice payday. But with his high strikeouts and inconsistent defense, Grandal may struggle to find an offer better than the one that the Mets made.
