Unexpected player had ridiculous three-point shooting half against Steph Curry

Steph Curry did not look like the best three-point shooter on the floor Thursday during the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Denver Nuggets. That title belonged to Aaron Gordon.

Warriors fans were left mystified as Gordon drained triple after triple inside Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif. Gordon went 7/7 from beyond the three-point line in the first half, which ranks as the second-most three-pointers made in a half without a miss in NBA history.

Gordon kept it going in the third quarter with a pull-up three in transition to make his eighth-straight trifecta after fittingly swatting Curry on the other end.

Gordon’s streak ended at eight, as he finally missed on his ninth attempt from distance. The tally already broke his career high of seven recorded last season.

If a Nuggets fan were to guess which player would go on a Curry-esque three-point barrage against the Warriors, Gordon would not have been a popular pick.

Nuggets sharpshooters Jamal Murray, Cam Johnson, or Tim Hardaway Jr. would have been top of mind. Even Nikola Jokic seemed more likely than Gordon, who is a career 33.1% three-point shooter on low volume.

Gordon had the best three-point shooting campaign of his career last season. He shot the deep ball on a 43.6% clip, but did so on just 3.4 attempts per contest. Gordon may have gained some confidence in his shooting stroke after hitting a game-winning three in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals.

If Gordon suddenly does become a lethal outside shooter this season, the Nuggets may very well be the Oklahoma City Thunder’s biggest threat for the title.
