Agent rips ‘disorganized’ Kings for releasing lottery pick Papagiannis

Sacramento Kings

The agent for lottery pick Georgios Papagiannis ripped the Sacramento Kings for releasing his client without ever really giving him a chance.

The Kings on Thursday waived Papagiannis, whom they selected No. 13 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. Papagiannis was acquired by the Kings in a trade with Phoenix that brought them Bogdan Bogdanovic and Skal Labissiere for No. 8 pick Marquese Chriss.

Via EuroHoops.net, agent Marios Olympios discussed the situation on Spor FM and ripped the Kings for the decision.

“He never got a chance by the Kings. He had a double-double every time he played in the G-League. … There are many details that prove that he never got a real chance.

“Unfortunately, in the draft, you can’t pick a team. You are picked. Giorgos ended up in a very disorganized franchise and I think that everyone in the NBA is shocked by the decision made by the Kings. It’s one more proof that something is wrong with the Kings.”

Well, he’s not wrong. The Kings didn’t really give Papagiannis a chance. They played him 38 games over two seasons, and he averaged 4.2 points, 3.2 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game. He’s only 20 years old, so someone should give him a chance.

The Kings have long been viewed as being dysfunctional by many, so this isn’t exactly new territory.
