Al Horford has officially committed to playing a 19th NBA season, and the veteran big man will do so for a new team.
Horford agreed to a multi-year contract with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Horford also issued a statement thanking the Boston Celtics and their fans.
“From the moment we arrived, you have welcomed my family and I with open arms. This chapter in my career will hold a special place in my heart,” Horford wrote. “Raising banner 18 with this city will be a moment I will always cherish. I am forever grateful for the fans and the organization. Thank you, Boston.”

Horford had been linked to the Warriors all offseason. The 39-year-old spent the past four seasons with the Celtics and helped the team win a championship two years ago. That was Horford’s second stint in Boston.
Horford averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game last season. He can hit the occasional three-pointer and has made 37.7 percent of his career attempts from beyond the arc. Horford is also a strong rebounder and low-post defender.
There were supposedly multiple teams that had interest in Horford, but Golden State was his most likely landing spot all along.
