Report: Al Horford expected to turn down ‘massive offer’ from Kings

Al Horford

The Sacramento Kings are planning to make a big push to sign Al Horford when free agency begins on Sunday evening, but it may not be enough to convince the star big man to join them.

Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee reports that the Kings are going to make a “massive offer” to Horford and that there is mutual interest between the two sides. That likely means that the offer will be well in excess of $100 million over four years, but Sam Amick of The Athletic was told the Kings are not confident they will land Horford.

We have heard of at least one other team that is willing to offer Horford more than $100 million, and that team is a contender. Horford is 33, so it makes sense that he wants to play for a team that gives him a chance to win his first championship. The Kings won 39 games last year and exceeded expectations, but they are highly unlikely to make a deep playoff run with or without Horford.
