Bam Adebayo definitely heard all the noise of the last five months.
The Miami Heat star big man Adebayo went viral on Thursday night for a hilarious post to his X page. Adebayo hopped online to react to the news that he had been giving an 87 rating in the latest “NBA2K27” video game.
“Out of respect I should’ve been 83,” wrote Adebayo in reply.
Out of respect I should’ve been 83

Adebayo was clearly referencing his historic game against the Washington Wizards in March 2026. The 29-year-old All-Star scored 83 points, breaking Kobe Bryant’s modern-day scoring record of 81 set in 2006 and settling behind only Wilt Chamberlain’s iconic all-time record of 100 set in 1962.
But Adebayo’s generational performance also brought out its fair share of critics. Some suggested that his 83-point game was achieved “unethically” due to the way that he scored his baskets while others (laughably) claimed that Adebayo should have stopped before getting to 81 “out of respect” for Bryant.
Even multiple retired former NBA All-Stars publicly ripped Adebayo over the performance. Now Adebayo himself is having some fun this week in pointing out just how absurd some of his detractors sounded.
