Report: Bucks showing interest in trading for Ben McLemore
The Milwaukee Bucks need to (a) find a dumping ground for Greg Monroe and (b) add extra help on the wing. As it turns out, they might be able to accomplish both in one fell swoop.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe is reporting on Thursday that the Bucks have called the Sacramento Kings about former No. 2 overall pick Ben McLemore and are willing to move either Monroe or Michael Carter-Williams in the right deal.
The Bucks have become desperate for wings after getting hit with O.J. Mayo’s dismissal from the league and Khris Middleton’s torn hamstring this offseason. They already acquired another ex-No. 2 pick in Michael Beasley but could still use somebody like McLemore, who shot 36.2 percent from deep last season and brings tremendous athletic upside.
McLemore probably won’t start in Sacramento this season after the Kings signed veteran 2-guards Arron Afflalo and Garrett Temple and drafted Syracuse SG Malachi Richardson. The Bucks have also long been searching for an excuse to jettison Monroe, whose old-school style and lack of foot speed have failed to click with the team from the very beginning. But the Kings, of course, have that borderline-farcical excess of big men on their roster, so a third team may have to get involved for a deal to actually be consummated.
