Lakers head coach Byron Scott grew up in Inglewood, spent the first ten years of his NBA career playing at the Forum in Inglewood for the Lakers, and now coaches in Los Angeles. Surely he’d be excited about the Rams’ impending move to the city, right?
Well, not so fast.
“I’m going to root for them when they’re not playing the Steelers and they’re not playing the 49ers,” Scott said Tuesday, via Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News. “When they’re playing other teams I’m not interested in, I’ll root for (the Rams).”
So, you ask, how does Scott become a Steelers and 49ers fan?
“I was a big Steelers fan from my elementary days,” Scott said. “Then I become a 49ers fan with Ronnie Lott out there because I have a relationship with Ronnie. But just because Ronnie is not there anymore doesn’t mean I’m not going to be a 49ers fan.”
Fair enough, then. Sott may not be queuing up for season tickets, but surely many others will, especially once that stadium gets built.
