Report: Clippers interested in signing Kawhi Leonard’s ex-Raptors teammate
The LA Clippers have an open roster spot or two to toy around with, and they may be going with a player known to newly-arrived superstar Kawhi Leonard.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on Monday that free agent sharpshooter Jodie Meeks has drawn interest from the Clippers in addition to the Charlotte Hornets. The 31-year-old Meeks was teammates with Leonard on the Toronto Raptors last season, and they won the NBA championship together.
Though Meeks played in just 22 total games for Toronto between the regular season and the playoffs, he shot 44.3 percent from three as a Raptor and is a 37.7 percent three-point shooter for his career. That could come in handy on a Clippers team lacking a true outside sniper other than Landry Shamet and maybe Jerome Robinson.
The Clippers already hired one of Leonard’s best friends to be an assistant, so signing one of his former teammates as well would not be too surprising.
