Clippers now Kawhi Leonard’s preferred destination?
Kawhi Leonard seems to change his mind more often than he changes clothes.
Appearing Thursday on the “Back to Back” podcast, ESPN San Antonio Spurs writer Michael C. Wright revealed that Leonard has a new target destination.

“Things have changed, but the Lakers are not Kawhi’s preferred destination anymore. He wants to go to the Clippers,” said Wright. “Because he doesn’t want to go and be second fiddle to LeBron [James]. That’s what I was told, and I was told by somebody that would know.”
“Right now the Clippers are where he wants to go,” added Wright. “But I’m also told, I talked to people within the Spurs organization and they’re like, ‘Well yeah, he wants to go the Clippers, but their assets are s— right now.'”
The Lakers have obviously been widely reported as Leonard’s preference for several weeks now. But recent days have also seen rumors emerge linking him to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics in addition to the Clippers.
True, there may be some ulterior motives for why this news is leaking (to get the Lakers to up their trade offer, to convince other teams that Leonard is not necessarily hellbent on the purple and gold and entice them to jump into the fray, etc.). The Clippers’ relative lack of appealing young assets is indeed a very real concern as well. But it could just be that the Los Angeles market in general is what Leonard is really after, and we already know of one Clipper who is trying his best to recruit him.
