When it rains, it monsoons for the Dallas Mavericks.
Shams Charania of ESPN appeared Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show.” During the appearance, Charania gave a concerning report about injured Mavs star Anthony Davis, suggesting that Davis may not play again this season (after appearing in just one total game for Dallas).
“I think him and his representatives, I think they’re gonna huddle up,” said Charania. “I think they’re gonna have some very hard conversations. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that that one game was the last time we have seen Anthony Davis this season.”

The 10-time NBA All-Star Davis was acquired by Dallas as the centerpiece of last month’s blockbuster Luka Doncic trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. But he has played in all of 31 minutes for the Mavericks thus far after suffering an adductor strain in his debut for the team back on Feb. 8 (video here).
Dallas is quickly fading at 32-30 (which is now 10th in the Western Conference), and they just got the devastating news earlier in the day Tuesday that fellow star Kyrie Irving had suffered a torn ACL. Thus, there might not be a lot left for Davis to risk himself for over the last month of the regular season.
At almost 32 years old, Davis is still under contract for two more guaranteed seasons (at roughly $56 million per year) and also holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. But even so, the right move for Davis is probably to prioritize his long-term health rather than trying to chase the play-in tournament in what has quickly become a lost season for the post-Doncic Mavericks.
