Damian Lillard: Draymond Green trash talk taken as a challenge

Draymond Green

Draymond Green is one of the NBA’s most notorious trash talkers, presenting something of a challenge to those targeted by it.

Rather than letting it get under his skin, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard takes it as a challenge.

“For me, it’s just going to make me raise the level of my game because I take [Green’s trash talk] as a challenge,” Lillard said Portland’s Game 1 loss to Golden State, via ESPN’s Chris Haynes. “I’m going to take exception to it, and I’m going to say something back. That’s what it’s going to be, as long as that’s how he’s approaching it — it’s going to be coming right back.”

Green had words with both Lillard and C.J. McCollum during the game, but in Lillard’s mind, it’s good for the competition.

“I think having a guy like that on the floor, I think it raises the level of the game, because I don’t even talk trash, and he was saying so much out there that I had a whole lot to say tonight,” Lillard said.

Green has an easier time getting away with it because he puts together games like this. He can indisputably back it up.
