San Antonio Spurs big man Kelly Olynyk probably didn’t expect his choice of socks to be put on blast to open the playoffs.
The veteran big man was on the floor for the final minute of play in the Spurs’ 111-98 win over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 1 of their first-round series at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Little did he know that NBC announcer Reggie Miller was clowning him for pairing his Kobe sneakers with ankle-length socks.
“Did Kelly Olynyk forget his socks?” Miller wondered aloud before he and Mike Tirico cracked several jokes at Olynyk’s expense.
The NBC broadcast even zoomed in on Olynyk’s feet with a few seconds left in the game, proving that he was indeed wearing a pair of ankle socks to an NBA postseason game.

It was certainly an interesting broadcast choice to close out a resounding Spurs win in Game 1 over an overmatched Blazers team with a shot of Olynyk’s shoes.
The Gonzaga alum probably didn’t expect to get much playing time in Game 1, and true enough, he only played one minute of game action. The broadcast team spent his entire stint on the floor roasting him for looking like he was about to play a round of golf.
Olynyk’s style choices may not have won over Reggie Miller, but the Spurs organization as a whole drew rave reviews for their arena setup in Game 1. Frost Bank Center was decked out in “Fiesta” colors that were mesmerizing to viewers watching from home.
