David Fizdale agrees to become new Knicks head coach

David Fizdale

David Fizdale is getting back into the head coaching world.

Fizdale has agreed to become the new head coach of the New York Knicks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports. This should not come as a surprise considering a report on Wednesday said Fizdale was gaining traction as the team’s potential hire.

Fizdale, 43, is a highly respected coach in the NBA. He spent several years as an assistant for the Miami Heat from 2008-2016 before leaving to become the Memphis Grizzlies’ head coach. The team went 43-39 under him last season but started off slowly this season, leading to Fizdale’s firing.

The Knicks apparently were satisfied with Fizdale’s explanation for what went wrong between him and Marc Gasol, which had a big role in his firing from Memphis.
