David Stern

David Stern died on Wednesday, three weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage at a restaurant on December 12. The 77-year-old former NBA commissioner was remembered fondly by many and praised for all he did to grow the NBA into a successful league.

Stern received numerous tributes online and widespread acclaim upon his death. Here is a look at many of those tributes:

RIP David. You always said you made me and you were absolutely right . You were a friend, mentor and administrator of the largest donut fund ever. You are missed. pic.twitter.com/RYACDOj9ii

I can not put into words what the friendship of David Stern has meant to me but many others. He changed so many lives. David was a great innovator and made the game we love what it is today. This is a horrible loss. Our hearts are with Dianne & their family. RIP my friend. @NBA pic.twitter.com/mbnneqm18s

Today the #NBAFamily lost a legend, a leader that changed our game for the better. A father, a husband, a friend.

David Stern was such a history maker. When I announced in 1991 I had HIV, people thought they could get the virus from shaking my hand. When David allowed me to play in the 1992 All Star Game in Orlando and then play for the Olympic Dream Team, we were able to change the world.

Very sad day for basketball. We saw David Stern a lot in the 90s and I found him to be kind, thoughtful and almost always the smartest person in the room. He was an innovator who helped grow our sport into a global game and his impact will never be forgotten. RIP, Commissioner. pic.twitter.com/FzlJwnJmrK

In a statement released by the team, Warriors coach Steve Kerr sums up the late NBA Commissioner David Stern pretty well: "David Stern made probably a bigger impact on the game than any non player in the history of the NBA." Giant. G.O.A.T. Friend – Best leader in sports history – We mourn David Stern – Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family – A moment of silence in homage at tonight’s game but in our hearts & daily operations, in the NBA, he is ubiquitous – He is & will be truly missed by all. https://t.co/Ayujt1RTxc

We’ve lost an icon in David Stern. Will never forget those nights hosting the draft. If I was late getting to his announcement of the next pick and he was standing at the podium waiting then he would wait on the next pick and make me tap dance. You didn’t mess with the commish
