As we’ve come to know throughout his career, Derrick Rose is generally a man of few words when in front of the microphone (with the exception of his moving MVP seech). Prior to Saturday’s game between the Bulls and Warriors, Rose let his T-shirt do the talking for him.
Rose took the floor at United Center for pregame warmups wearing a shirt with the phrase “I Can’t Breathe” on the front. Those words were uttered by Eric Garner, who died after being put in a choke hold by a New York police officer. A grand jury decided the officer will not face criminal charges. The incident was captured on video and has sparked several protests across the country in response.
Magic Johnson recently was complimentary of LeBron James and his willingness to take a stand on social issues. This time around, it was Derrick Rose’s turn to make a statement.
