Dillon Brooks is submitting his audition tape for the Houston Texans this week.
The Houston Rockets swingman Brooks sparked backlash online for a moment of excessive physicality on Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry during Game 3 of the Western Conference first-round series between the teams at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., on Saturday. In the first quarter of the contest, Curry shot a three-pointer from the top of the arc, and Brooks hustled to close out on the attempt.
While Curry was able to get the shot off easily, Brooks body-checked the airborne Curry, knocking him to the ground. Curry missed the three-pointer and didn’t even get a foul call on the play either. Here is the video.
That looked to be a concerted effort to jostle Curry by Brooks, who clearly took a late leap sideways to make contact. Though Brooks was somehow not called for a foul on the play, his overly aggressive defense in the first half did cost him as he was whistled for four fouls before halftime (while putting up just five points).
The former All-Defensive selection Brooks is doing all that he can this series to try to throw the Warriors off their game. Whether it is producing ridiculous flops or pulling a Lawrence Taylor on Golden State’s three-point attempts, Brooks is up for the task.
The Warriors were also playing on Saturday without Jimmy Butler, who was ruled out due to a glute muscle contusion suffered in Game 2 of the series (video here). As such, the Rockets were able to give some extra defensive attention (or whatever that was from Brooks) to the likes of Curry.
