Dirk Nowitzki says his foot is ‘not great’
Dirk Nowitzki is making progress in his recovery following ankle surgery at the end of the season, but he says his foot is “not great.”
Nowitzki played 77 games during the regular season and shut things down a little early in order to get a head start on his recovery for next season. The Dallas Mavericks icon showed up at a fan event on Sunday and spoke with Mavs.com reporter Dwain Price, sharing an update on his health.
Nowitzki says he is “progressing good” in his rehab and is now in a boot.
Today, Dirk Nowitzki gave an update on his Apr. 5 left ankle surgery: "Tomorrow I’ll take the stitches out. Progressing good, but it’ll be awhile until I can run and do basketball activities. I already started rehabbing a little bit and riding the bike and lifting a little bit."

Dirk is wearing a short boot now. He said: "A couple of steps here and there. It’s been over two weeks (since the surgery) and I’m moving around without it already pretty good at home. But once you step out I’ll still wear the boot."

Nowitzki seemed to indicate that despite his ankle surgery, his foot is and will be problematic.
Dirk: "The foot is not great. That’s obvious after 20 years in the league. I think I've got arthritis in every joint I have in my body, which is normally I guess after 20 years. But they corrected that one area that it was just blocking me and bothering me all season long."

The soon-to-be 40-year-old averaged 12 points on 45.6 percent shooting and 5.7 rebounds per game during the season.
