Doc Rivers: Clippers have been ‘reading our obituary for three months’
Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers had to face the music after his team’s 104-91 first-round loss in Game 7.
The Clippers spent much of the second half trailing by double digits at home and weren’t competitive despite Rudy Gobert contributing just one point in 14 minutes due to foul trouble. After the team’s third home loss in four games of the series, Rivers took stock ahead of what might be a tumultuous summer in Los Angeles.
Doc Rivers on the Clippers' summer:
"I'm sure everyone will have their own suggestions. We've been reading our obituary for 3 months now."— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) April 30, 2017
It’s an odd quote to give after losing a series in which the Clippers were favored. Did expectations take their toll as the team went through second half struggles? There are going to be tough decisions for Rivers and the Clippers this summer. Key players are set to become free agents, though reports indicate one may be likely to stay. No matter what happens, this will be looked at as another underwhelming season in which the Clippers fell short of expectations.
