Rivers was upset that referee Lauren Holtkamp called a foul on the Clippers following the inbounds pass by Brooklyn. Rivers didn’t agree with the foul call and was saying the Clippers were not trying to intentionally foul, as some teams do in a strategic move.
Rivers, who is typically tempered, was given a technical foul by Ken Mauer and exploded. He was given a second tech for his reaction, which resulted in his automatic ejection.
There apparently was some confusion over what Rivers said to Holtkamp, which led to Mauer giving him the technical.
Perhaps as some measure of justice, the Nets missed one of the free throws, while the Clippers made a three to tie the game and send it to double-OT.
