Donovan Mitchell downplays Rookie of the Year loss after feud

Donovan Mitchell

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell did not come out on top in the NBA’s Rookie of the Year voting, but he isn’t sweating it now.

This year’s balloting was more tense than usual, with Mitchell taking jabs at eventual winner Ben Simmons’s rookie status. Simmons won, but that doesn’t mean Mitchell is upset.

“The media chose who they wanted to chose. And it’s whatever,” Mitchell told TMZ Sports at a crowded Adidas store event in Santa Monica on Tuesday. “I’m excited to be here. I’ve got all this support right here!”

Ultimately, Simmons won fairly comfortably, collecting 90 of the 101 available first-place votes. While some people other than Mitchell agreed with his point of view, it wasn’t nearly enough to swing the voting.
