Dwyane Wade is a Miami Heat legend, which made his somewhat rocky departure from South Beach all the more stunning over the summer.
As Wade prepares to return to Miami as a member of the Chicago Bulls, he admitted that he doesn’t think Heat fans understand why he left – and he isn’t sure he even wants them to.
“I don’t think a lot of people understand,” Wade said Monday, via Sam Smith of NBA.com. “If you’re not in this business it’s hard to understand. I don’t really want them to understand. I want them to appreciate what we accomplished together. I want them to cheer for the team they have now, support those players who are giving their all. Support the future of the organization and be thankful we were able to experience an unbelievable ride together. That’s all you can do.”
Wade still hasn’t spoken to Pat Riley since he left. It’s clear that he still has a great amount of affection for the city, the franchise, and the fans, but he also had his reasons for leaving. He doesn’t really owe anyone an explanation for that.
