Earl Watson reportedly fired by Phoenix Suns
Earl Watson has been fired as head coach of the Phoenix Suns just three games into the season, according to a report.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports the news about Watson’s firing. The Suns are 0-3 following a blowout loss to the Clippers on Saturday night. They have the day off Sunday before hosting the Kings on Monday night.
Watson took over the Suns two seasons ago as an interim coach replacing Jeff Hornacek. He went 9-24 as an interim coach, then 24-58 as the coach for the full season last year. His team was 0-3 this season. Jay Triano is reportedly expected to take over on an interim basis.
The Suns have been unable to find success since firing Mike D’Antoni after the ’07-’08 season. They’ve only had two winning seasons since then, made the playoffs just once, and have had five head coaches (when you include interim coaches).
News of Watson’s firing comes the same day that Eric Bledsoe sent a tweet raising suspicion about his desire to remain with the team.
