Emeka Okafor attempting NBA comeback, joins Sixers G League team
Former No. 2 overall draft pick Emeka Okafor will join the Sixers’ G League affiliate in hopes of returning to the NBA.
Okafor was among three players at Sixers camp to be informed they would be waived this weekend. On Saturday, the 35-year-old big man agreed to play for the Delaware 87ers, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley.
Emeka Okafor will play for Sixers' G league team with hopes of signing with an NBA team over the next few months, league sources told ESPN.

After a standout career at the University of Connecticut, Okafor was selected second overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Bobcats. He went on to win the league’s Rookie of the Year Award and play nine seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Wizards during the 2012-2013 season.
Okafor has been unable to play since then due to a herniated disk in his neck. However, he was cleared by doctors earlier this year to resume basketball activities.
