One Los Angeles Lakers great could be pulling a Jerry West and defecting from the Lakers to the Golden State Warriors.

Retired two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol guested recently on JJ Redick’s “The Old Man and the Three” podcast and revealed that he has been having conversations with the Warriors about a potential job.

“I’m exploring a potential role with a team,” Gasol said. “I’ve been going a little bit under the radar with the Warriors, and they’ve kinda opened their doors for me to come in and be part of meetings, see the guys a little bit, and talk to some of the guys. It’s been nice and maybe I’m going to do that more and more as I go forward.”

The 42-year-old did add however that he is not in a rush to get hired and wants to take his time to see what best fits him.

Gasol, who just announced his retirement from professional basketball last October, is a celebrated former Laker. He was an integral part of their 2009 and 2010 championship teams and also made six All-Star teams plus four All-NBA teams throughout his NBA career.

While Gasol does not have many connections to the Warriors organization, Golden State assistant Mike Brown was Gasol’s former head coach with the Lakers. Gasol has also been speaking highly of the Warriors for years now. It is unclear right now what Gasol’s possible role in Golden State would be. But his championship pedigree would make for a strong add to any organization.
