Hawks reportedly considering Chauncey Billups, Brent Barry for GM position

The Atlanta Hawks may be giving a shout-out to all of the 2000s basketball enthusiasts with their next general manager hire.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Tuesday, Chauncey Billups and Brent Barry are among the names the Hawks are considering for their open GM position. Also on Atlanta’s list according to Wojnarowski are Houston Rockets VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, New York Knicks director of player personnel Mark Hughes, and these two candidates in whom the Hawks’ interest had previously been reported.

Billups and Barry are both former players-turned-television analysts who have no prior front office experience. The Hawks just underwent a rather dramatic restructuring at the executive level, so perhaps getting in on the ground floor with a younger, flashier-name GM pick is the play for them here.
