Isaiah Thomas already recruiting Kevin Durant to Celtics

Kevin Durant

Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas wasted no time trying to recruit Kevin Durant after the Oklahoma City Thunder lost Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals on Monday night.

Thomas sent a not-so-subtle tweet featuring a shamrock and the number 35. It was clearly aimed at Durant:

Isaiah-Thomas-Kevin-Durant

Thomas deleted the tweet rather quickly, likely because someone informed him it could constitute tampering since Durant is still technically under contract with the Thunder. Not to mention, No. 35 is retired in Boston on behalf of Reggie Lewis.

If Thomas wants to make his pitch to Durant, he’ll have to get in line. Earlier in the playoffs, there was speculation that Durant would leave OKC if the Thunder lost to the San Antonio Spurs and stay if they won. The Thunder pulled the upset, but the way they lost to the Warriors — after having a 3-1 series lead and a lead for much of Game 6 at home — could change things.

The sting from OKC’s meltdown could linger with Durant and be enough to inspire him to leave. If the Celtics are able to pull off some sort of trade like this, they could become a contender to land him. Expect Thomas to be among the first people in Durant’s ear when free agency begins.
